EASTER 2008

We had a very enjoyable Easter break at home this year. We realized we hadn't been home for Easter since we first moved to Fresno, so we made the decision to stay home and enjoy a relaxed vacation. The kids played with friends, went to the park, colored Easter eggs, and had a great time! We had some families over for Easter Sunday to celebrate with us. And yes, we had the annual egg cracking contest! We blended our traditions and I think it worked:) We are so grateful to have such a wonderful extended family (who we missed), wonderful friends, and especially grateful for the wonderful blessing of the Savior in our lives. We hope you all had a wonderful Easter as well!

Tagged--My Husband

I was tagged by another friend, but this time it was about Mike. I actually had a hard time finding pictures of just him, but lucky him, I found this one of him IN SPANDEX!!! He's gonna love me for that:) So here goes...

What is his name? Michael Edward Salway

How long have we been together? 12 years:)

How old is he? 33 (right, honey?!)

How long did we date? We started dating in February and then left each other for the summer...so together about 4 months...apart about 2 months.

Who said I love you first? This is actually a fun story...but I'll make it short. I was taking a sign language class at the time and was teaching him some along the way. So we were sitting at a devotional at the Marriott Center and he signed it to me. I think that counts.

Who is taller? Him, but we both got the short end of that deal!!

Who can sing better? Lalala...me:)

Who does the laundry? Me, but he helps out when he sees it has been a long day:)

Who pays the bills? Me, and he doesn't help out with that.

Who sleeps on the right side? Mike

Who mows the lawn? Mike, and I have never helped out with that.

Who drives? Mike

Who kissed who first? He definitely went in for the kill first.

Who proposed? Mike

Who is more stubborn? This may be a toss up, but realistically, it is probably me.

Who has more siblings? Mike has one more in his family.

TAGGED!

Where was I 10 years ago:

I was living in Provo, UT going to school full time, pregnant with my first child:) Wow, that seems like so long ago!!

Things on my "To Do" list today:

Breakfast @ Melissa's, Costco stop, organize toys (which didn't get done), laundry (as always!), pick up kids from school, make dinner, take back movies, get gas, work on church file system, read,...Man I live a pretty boring life!!! (Except for the breakfast of course!)

Things I would do if I became a Billionaire:

Take my kids on all those fun vacation spots like the Bahamas and a Disney cruise line of course. I would hopefully visit our families a lot more than we do now. I would hire a maid and a cook so I could spend all my time hanging out with the kids!!! Oh, and a personal trainer:) And I would give the BEST birthday presents.

3 of my bad habits:

1. Wasting time.
2. Jumping to the wrong conclusion.
3. Gossiping. ( I hate that word! EWWW!)

5 Places I've lived.

1. Omaha, NE
2. Provo, UT
3. Orem, UT (big stretch)
4. Reno, NV
5. Sparks, NV (another big stretch)

5 Jobs I've had.

1. Newspaper carrier:)
2. Kindercare
3. Dip'n Dots
4. Babysitter (stretching again)
5. Concessions at UVSC (Thanks J.D.)
Wow, I really had to stretch that out. I haven't had many jobs in my day. Of course Mom for the past 10 years should've made the list on numbers 1-5!!!!

Something most people don't know about me:

I got this idea from Kendra! I am actually a closet "Prison Break" watcher. SSHHHHH!! Don't tell anyone, though. It is my dirty little secret. I have watched it since it came out, and I just can't stop. It doesn't hurt that the main character, MICHAEL SCOFFIELD, is H-O-T!! (Which is another dirty little secret, so don't tell anyone.

Well, hopefully you all learned SOMETHING new about me. Now it is my turn to tag some of my friends!! I TAG Melissa, Julie W., & Jamie.

The Meaningful Chop

So I happen to have a daughter who doesn't mind having long hair, but also doesn't mind having short hair, either. I know....just lucky:) Anyways, we were planning on getting her hair cut, and thought...hmmm. I wonder if we could go short enough and donate it to a good cause. So we checked it out and there is an organization called "Pantene Beautiful Lengths" that allows you to donate 8 inches (instead of the usual 10 that Locks of Love requires). So we actually ended up with 9 inches cut off, put it in a plastic baggie, and shipped it off with love to someone who will put that hair with others and make a wig for someone who has lost it due to cancer. Amanda felt really good about it, and feels like she has made a difference in someone else's life. It is amazing what little things we can do to make a difference in the world.
We took a picture of her with her hairdresser, Brittany, who also happens to be a good friend of ours.

My Little Photographer

I just had to do this....sorry for those of you who may think this is a silly one. But little Carter just loves to get a hold of my camera and take pictures. And sometimes I let him because1-he is too cute to say no to, 2-it gives him something to do and makes him happy and 3- it is a digital camera:) (What did we used to use??!!) Anyways, so someone mentioned that I should keep some of these photos just to remember that he liked to do this when he was 2! So I was looking through the ones he took over Christmas Break, and some of them are really funny! And he does have some accuracy in his photo taking. So here they are. Hope you get a good laugh!

Thanksgiving

10 Things I am thankful for:
(not in any particular order)
1. Good Food (of which I partook of today especially)
pumpkin pie
sweet potatoes
cranberry sauce
Without these, it just isn't Thanksgiving dinner:)
2. The Thanksgiving Day parade: because it gives me a reason to be lazy on Thanksgiving morning.
3. Running toilets: because I really don't know what I'd do without them!
4. A warm house to come in from the cold.
5. A loving family: immediate and extended. For the love you feel around them.
6. Apologies: because we all make mistakes and need to be forgiven.
7. A body: They really are amazing things. I think most of us take for granted the way they move and function without even realizing it.
8. Friends at home: Because they are my family in Fresno.
9. Transportation: all the different kinds, but mostly for cars and airplanes because it allows us the chance to visit family and friends faster than if we didn't have them!!
10. A nearby temple: because we have always lived within 30 minutes of one, and I sometimes forget what a blessing they are. It is where I feel the best.

Party Halloween Style

The annual Salway Halloween Party!!
We had such a fun time this year with lots of new friends and costumes!! Never a dull moment. We split into teams this year and made videos. The winners of the costume party were the "Bun in the Oven" with the Cook. So cute! It is so amazing what people come up with!! Thanks to all for a terrific night.

Time Out for Women

I love "Time out for Women"!! This is our second year going up. It is in Sacramento, about a 3 hour drive, which is fun to do in and of itself with no kids!! We stay in a vacant house of one of the girls' family's. We stay up late and talk and talk and talk and then talk some more. Then we all battle for the showers and head off, trying not to be late:) We get to listen to people like Hilary Weeks (who is hilarious), Jenny Frogley, John Hilton III, Cherie Call, Laurel Christiansen, and more. We cry, we laugh, we shop Deseret Book, we eat:) Then we hit the road again to travel back to our families that have missed us sooooo much:) One of the girl's daughters asked us why we had to have a "time out"...she said "why don't we just go sit in the corner?" chuckle, chuckle...Mom's do need a time out sometimes, and we do need longer ones than our kids usually get. I am so grateful at this time for wonderful friends and for the experience that we had. I will treasure it.
